Chapter 360
(Author’s POV)
“Hospital? With Prof. Stephens?” William’s voice erupted as he got up from the couch at once.
Up until that point, just like last night, Myra and Wendy were thinking that she and Fabian were at the hospital for Jacob, but Yelena’s grim tone said otherwise. Myra walked straight towards her friend and supported her while the latter told them the story. Of course, not the full fledged tale, but with lots of omissions and editing.
With each word that she uttered, the Miracles kept losing shade off their faces, going from pale to paler to colourless.
“Why didn’t you call and tell us about it?” William questioned.
“My phone got wrecked, but I did give Wendy a call last night,” Yelena said, her voice filled with exhaustion.
“I thought you were there because of Chairman Larson,” Wendy said, her voice faded at the end, feeling guilty.
“Sorry~ I didn’t get to tell you that. Other guardians were lining up, so I had to cut it short,” Yelena apologized.
“So, how is Fabian now?” Myra queried, her expression etched with nervousness, “And how did you get this injury p>
“Fabian~ he is~ Yelena released a breath as everyone around her held theirs in their throat, waiting for her to finish. “He woke up around an hour and a half ago. Thankfully, the doctor checked, and there seems to be no issue. But he will need to be kept under observation for a day p>
Listening to her, all the others released a unanimous breath of relief. Meanwhile, Yelena continued, “I just came for a quick shower. After changing my clothes, I will be heading back.” She informed.
“I will come with you,” Myra said straight away. “Me too,” Wendy jumped in after her.
“NO~ YOU CAN’T,” Yelena shot almost instantly, her voice a decibel higher than usual. Her unconventional behaviour caught everyone in the room by surprise. Watching their reaction, she realized and quickly covered, saying, “I~ mmm~ just you both have classes to attend. You have already missed a lot of classes lately. It wouldn’t be wise for you to miss anymore. Prof. Mitchell~ he is itching to give you a demerit point p>
Wendy pouted, but understood her genuine concern, and so did William and Sandra. The only one who could tell something was off was Myra. She kept gawking at Yelena with a look full of skepticism. The way Yelena reacted just now, there was something she was trying to hide.
She muttered, “It’s okay. I will tell Prof. Mitchell about the situation. He will probably understand.” Her eyes didn’t leave Yelena’s for even a second.
In a calm and composed tone, Yelena said, “That won’t be necessary. I will take you after you are done with all your classes, umm.” Her eyelashes were fluttering rapidly.
And that sealed Myra’s suspicion. Yelena had this rare habit whenever she was brimming with anxiety. It didn’t always happen, but when she is under extreme pressure and stress. Myra pressed her lips tightly as she saw Yelena ascending the stairs.
After a few seconds, she mumbled, “I will just check her out,” and walked straight towards Yelena’s room. She was about to knock, but the door was left slightly ajar, so she entered and shut the door quietly, locking it behind her.
Yelena was facing her wardrobe, her mind muddled with the thoughts of what had happened in the last twenty four hours.
“Yel, we need to talk,” Myra’s voice came out steady, but it still startled the heck out of Yelena. She jumped up like a scaredy cat, her legs staggering and lot it’s footing.
Myra was swift and caught her in time, then helped her to a nearby chair. Yelena spoke, “Ra~ra, you scared the shit out of me p>
“Sorry for spooking you, but I need to know something which only you can tell me,” Myra said.
“Hmm? Go ahead?” Yelena said casually.
“Is everything fine at the hospital? Fabian is~ is he really~… totally alright?” Myra questioned.
“Of course. He is fine now,” Yelena assured her. “I know you two are close. You must be feeling really anxious. I understand. But he is doing better p>
“Then what are you trying to hide?” Myra came straight to the point. “I know you are, so bother denying it. Just out with it p>
“Wh~… what are you saying, Myra? I~ There is nothing I am hiding,” Yelena said, though her eyes did that same reaction.
“Don’t lie,” Myra’s voice was collected. “Tell me, what’s going on? I can handle it p>
Yelena chewed her inner cheek, her face lowered. After much contemplation, she knew she couldn’t conceal it anymore and should just give Myra a heads up. She started. “Actually, I told you that Fabian fell into the sea while on a rescue mission for Mr. Larson. The person who saved him was~ She paused, licked her lips nervously and added, “Brave Everests p>
Myra nodded coolly, though her fists were clenched on either side. Yelena continued, “When I reached the place, he was with Fabian, but those two were not alone. There was someone else as well p>
Myra was expecting Elio’s name, but what Yelena told her made her catch her breath, “It was~ *sigh* Nora was also there.” She uttered it like a rapid fire round.
She glanced at Myra, whose face was as white as a paper sheet. She was too stumped to verbalize anything: her circuit like mind flashed with countless Formula One cars like past memories.
’No~ra? Nora is~ she is here? In Esteria?’ A surge of emotions coursed through her hearing Nora’s name.
“Although I covered my face to conceal my identity. But they both accompanied me to the hospital. So, there is a possibility that they might return to check up on Fabian,” Yelena mumbled. “I know you want to avoid the Everests at all costs. I don’t know the full conflict, but what I do know is that you won’t do that without a solid reason. So, I~ p>
“I understand your concern, Yel,” Myra’s voice came out calmer than expected. “But~… I~ don’t want to be shielded anymore. I am tired of lying, hiding, running away, Yelena. I have decided not do that any longer. Especially when Fabian needs us the most, to safeguard myself, I can’t turn my back on him p>
Seeing her determination, Yelena was relieved, but she then muttered, “Are you sure you will be fine? Her presence won’t affect you at all p>
“It would. But there is nothing I can’t handle,” Myra gave her a genuine and confident smile, which eased the tension residing inside Yelena.
“Whatever is your decision, I have got your back,” Yelena promised her. Then, with the help of Myra, she went to the bathroom.
Almost an hour later, after having a quick breakfast, the two of them were ready to head to the hospital when Sandra called for them, “Myra, Yelena. Take this with you.” She handed Myra a three container lunch box.
“Mom, why is it so heavy?” Myra inquired.
“Ohh~ I don’t know what will suit Prof. Stephens’ palate, so I made a few extra dishes. The first one has lentil and root vegetable soup. The second one has Avgolemono, and the last one has plain oats porridge,” Sandra spoke.
“Aunt Sandra, seeing all these dishes, he would think we are having a potluck party,” Yelena chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. After taking a bath and changing into proper outerwear, she looked much fresher and livelier.
This had a lot to do with what Myra said as well.
“Did I overdo it?” Sandra asked with doubt.
“I was just teasing you, Aunt. Fabian will be thrilled to see them. He would be happy to know that you care about him so much. He might end up slurping up all three. After all, it’s your cooking,” Yelena said.
“You cheeky lass. Stop with your jokes now, and off you both go,” Sandra brushed her nose with her fingers playfully. “Ohh no~ wait, I forgot to give you one more thing p>
Saying this, she went inside the kitchen. Yelena whispered near Myra’s ear, “Is she going to bring one more lunch box p>
Sandra came out hurriedly and handed over her phone to Yelena, “Take this as well. Neither of you has a working phone. Use mine for now p>
“Ohh~ damn. I totally forgot about it. Thanks, Aunt. I will make sure this one remains intact,” she winked at Sandra.
“The phone can get damaged, but I want you two to remain intact. Don’t get hurt,” Sandra said in a serious, warning tone, looking at Yelena’s foot.
Yelena clicked her tongue in guilt, “I will make sure this won’t happen again p>
Sandra nodded, “You better do p>
After saying their goodbyes, the two headed out of the house.

The day was bright and sunny, but only one place was shrouded with dark, inky clouds. The Larson mansion.
It has been more than ten hours since his rescue, but Jacob’s condition hasn’t improved even a little bit. He was barely hanging on by a thread. The Blood Fangs Clan’s doctors have been doing their absolute best, but things remained grim. There was a high chance that he might never wake up again.
