Chapter 415
(Author’s POV)
“MYRA~ MYRA~~ Alaric scowled in despair. Unfiltered desperation creeping into his heart. But the crackling and snapping sound of burning greens and woods replied instead of any human voice. The pungent smell was so intense that he couldn’t even make out whether Myra was inside the place or not.
He tried to take a step forward, but the fire was too big and scorching hot to make any move. The ferocious red and gold was spreading fast and wild. It had already engulfed a large chunk of land.
Nevertheless, without a fucking care for his own safety, he jumped into the conflagration, his dark blue orbs reflecting the bright amber flames.
As soon as he stepped in, he felt the raw, searing heat prickling at his skin, but that didn’t mean he halted his steps. He braved inside the cottage, which was going up in flames. The moment he set foot inside the discarded lodging, the scene he saw was much more horrific and scarier than what was outside.
Three people were lying on the floor, their bodies burning as wood blocks gagged their mouths, their hands and legs bound behind their backs, in a freakishly twisted manner. They all were squirming like a toad in boiling water. Alaric took a step forward, calling Myra’s name, but thankfully, none of them had any semblance of her.
While their bodies were still on fire, they looked at Alaric and tried to say something, but then a small fragment of Myra’s scent mixed with the acrid smell reached his nostrils, and he didn’t bother with them even for a second and rushed to catch the source.
His movements were agile and fast, but they were imposing as well, leaving the already shaking, crumpling floor with huge pockets. He reached the farther end of the place, and with a swift kick, banged the half already burnt, half burning door open.
Stepping inside, Alaric’s senses were overwhelmed by a powerful scent. His eyes darted as they landed on the fresh crimson liquid pooling on the floor. It was, with no doubt, the stench of her blood. Panic stricken, he glanced everywhere, but apart from a crooked chair, there was nothing inside. It was totally empty.
This brought a sense of relief, but it was only for a brief moment.
’She was here, Al,’ Alex mumbled, his voice frantic. ’She is still in danger. Mate is still in danger.’ He was feeling antsy and anguished. He forced his way up, took over Alaric, and briskly started looking for Myra. He checked each and every corner of the cottage, but there was absolutely no sign of her whatsoever.
He recalled the three people he had found at the very entrance and made his way there. But when he reached them, two out of the three were lying still, their pale figures now charring to a gruesome, gory death.
The last one was still struggling with all his might as he was nearing his death. Alaric quickly made his way towards him and, with his bare, bleeding hand, took the wooden block out of his mouth, asked, “Where is the girl who was here? WHERE IS SHE p>
Leroy, who was on the verge of dying, all of a sudden held Alaric’s hand and said, his voice was a mix of grunt and ache, “She is~ she is~ d~ But before he could complete his words, his hands slipped off as he died on the spot.
Alaric kicked his figure away. He clenched his chest as he felt an explicable ache as if he would die. He howled, a maddening, ear-piercing howl, “AAAAWWWOOOOOO p>
Fabian, who had just arrived at the place, was mortified to see the ghastly scene. He called for Myra, “MYRA~… MYRA~… MYRA~… MYRA~ but his calls were answered by Alaric’s wild, distressing howl. His face paled, raw concern was etched on it. But no matter how much he wanted to go inside, he couldn’t.
If he had tried to step inside that fire right now, he would have burned alive and cooked to death. Thankfully, and quite fortunately, a sudden, heavy downpour had started. The rain pelted down like a cataract. Within ten minutes or so, the raging, bellowing flames extinguished to the point where one could move freely.
Fabian rushed towards the entranced, but before he could enter, Alaric walked out. He instantly asked, “Alaric, what happened? What did you come out alone? Why did you howl like that, huhh p>
Alaric remained eerily mum. His quietness was terrorizing for Fabian. He grabbed him by the tattered collar and screamed, “WHY DID YOU COME OUT ALONE, YOU FUCKER? WHERE IS MYRA? WHERE IS SHE? ANSWER ME, GOT DAMMIT. ANSWER ME p>
When Alaric still didn’t answer, Fabian punched him, which landed square on his face. This brought him back to reality. He looked into Fabian’s ambers with his sapphires.
Fabian asked again, “Alaric Everests, I will kill you if something happens to her. Lycan or not, I swear I will kill you.” His brows furrowed, wrinkling when Alaric still didn’t utter anything. He walked inside the barely hanging cottage to see the charred remains of the three beings.
His eyes were ready to bulge out of their sockets when he saw the cruel, horrendous image. His body involuntarily started convulsing, his eyes reddening. Without wasting anytime, he dashed towards the three and checked them one by one. A huge sigh of relief escaped his mouth when he realized none of them was who he thought.
He once again came back to Alaric and, with a lump forming in his throat, asked, “Alaric, please tell me. Where is she? Pleasseee~ I beg you. PLEASEEEEEE~ p>
Alaric glanced at him while clutching something in his blood-stained palm. The old, scarring wound had split open once again and was bleeding heavily, so much so that the crimson was dripping down his hand. He then replied, “She isn’t here p>
“Huhh~ isn’t here? What do you mean?” Fabian repeated.
