This habit had become a fundamental way of survival for me and I subconsciously collected information no matter where I was.
I finally made it to the bathroom and entered one of the cubicles. As soon as I closed the door and managed to sit on the toilet seat, two people walked into the washroom and made a beeline for the sink.
They were probably washing their hands while talking and the topic of their conversation made my blood run cold.
“The alpha ascension ceremony in a few days is probably going to be the event of the decade. I heard that alpha Mike decided to announce his choosing of Innocent as the future Luna that day as well.” One of the women said.
“Yes, that’s definitely true. I overheard him tell the old alpha when I was delivering coffee in the office.” The other one replied proudly as if she had discovered a new continent.
“So, Innocent really turned out to be his mate. What a match made in heaven. The moon goddess didn’t make a mistake.” The first lady praised.
“Well, they’ve been together for so long it’s only natural.” Her colleague supported.
At this time, my ears were buzzing and an overwhelming pain crashed into my heart like a truck.
My brain was jumbled up and I couldn’t even think straight anymore. The pain was too much for me and adding the physical pain of my injuries, I was already wishing for death.
How could Mike do something so cruel? He was my mate and he knew it. Even though I wasn’t interested in being his mate, the mate bond would hurt me immensely if he took another as his chosen mate.
It could even kill me if he marked her. Yet, he didn’t care about me in the slightest. To him, the mate the moon goddess had chosen for him was a disgrace and he didn’t care if she was hurt.
How could anyone have such a cruel heart?
Now, even the physical pain of my broken bones didn’t matter anymore. Because the pain in my heart overwhelmed everything else and my mind was collapsing.
What was I supposed to do, especially with Lizzie still in deep slumber? I was finding it hard to breathe at this time and I had to use every ounce of strength I had to pull up my pants but just as I braved myself up to leave the cubicle, a piercing pain shot through my heart like never before and I blacked out immediately.
The last thing I remember was my body slowly crashing to the ground.
Mike’s POV
After what happened with Valerie and realizing my unusual behavior around her, I decided to choose Innocent as my mate and Luna and get rid of that ridiculous feeling.
I didn’t want any association with Valerie and having a mate publicly acknowledged by everyone would force me to stop thinking about Valerie.
However, for some reason, when I told my father about choosing Innocent as my mate, he objected.
“Why are you saying I can’t choose her as my mate? Father, what is going on?” I asked seriously.
Mostly, my father would let me do what I want. So, what was it about choosing a mate that made him oppose me for the first time?
“Just wait for your fated mate to appear. No matter how long it takes, do not mark another as your mate. Otherwise, all the effort we have put through will be in vain.” My father said to me, but I didn’t understand anything.
What effort had he put through? And what did he mean by ’we p>
“Father, can you give me a reasonable explanation? Why can’t Innocent become my mate? I have been with her for so long and I will not leave her. She is the one I have chosen. She is the perfect Luna for the pack.” I insisted.
“Fool. How could an ordinary she-wolf be good enough for you? How could she help you to elevate the Night claw park above all others?
Listen to me and don’t mark her as your mate. Wait for the one you experience a mate bond with and she is the perfect woman to help you rise above all werewolves in the world.” My father insisted.
I couldn’t understand why he would say that. I had already found my fated mate, and there was no way that slave could help me in rising to the top of the werewolf world.
What was my father thinking? At that moment, I patted myself on the back mentally for not letting anyone know about Valerie being my mate, otherwise my father might have forced me to marry her.
The only consolation was that I knew my father hated Valerie too. So, even if he found out in the future that I hid about her being my fated mate, he wouldn’t blame me.
He might even praise me for making the choice to not acknowledge her.
“Alright, I will listen to you. I won’t mark Innocent, but I have to choose her as my Luna for now. I had already promised her and I have to keep my promise. If I find my mate in the future, a divorce is also possible.” I had to calm my father down first and he had no objection to my suggestion.
I left his office in frustration thinking of Valerie being my mate and the only way I knew to calm myself down was to fuck Innocent.
I had someone bring her to me and without saying a word, I tore at her clothes and threw her on the bed.
I wasn’t in the mood to engage in the lengthy foreplay Innocent usually enjoys, so I just slammed my member inside her without much thought.
I heard Innocent scream and with my mind completely on the conversation I had with my father, I couldn’t care whether she was screaming from pleasure or pain.
It pleased me when she wrapped her arms around my shoulders and her nails dug into my back.
