Chapter 34
I was completely lost in pleasure when I felt a sharp pain pierce through my heart. It was so painful that I nearly collapsed on top of Innocent.
One word came to mind when I felt that pain, Valerie.
Something must have happened to her again.
However, the pain disappeared soon after and I thought it was a false alarm. ’Stupid mate bond.’ I thought to myself as I resumed our lovemaking.
Once I was done, I asked Innocent to rest and got dressed then headed to the hospital.
I wanted to see what that woman had done to cause me such pain.
When I walked into her room, it was empty.
My heart nearly skipped out of my chest when I saw the empty bed. I forgot all about my anger and ran out like a madman.
“Where is Valerie?” I grabbed a nurse passing by and shook her as I asked.
The nurse looked so scared that she couldn’t even utter a word, but I didn’t have time to entertain her.
“Where is Valerie? I am asking you a question.” I shouted at her.
To my surprise, instead of answering me, she straight up fainted.
I watched her fall to the floor like a sack of rice and didn’t have time to care about her. I turned around to look for someone else to ask about Valerie when I noticed a bed pushed out of the theater towards my direction.
Without anyone saying anything, I felt the pull from the person lying on the bed and immediately knew it was Valerie.
I ran over and blocked the bed then looked at the thin face of the girl lying on it.
It was so white she didn’t look like she had any blood in her body.
She was lying there quietly as if she would never wake up.
My emotions were conflicted at that thought.
If she died and didn’t wake up, then no one would know about my disgrace of having such a useless mate. But her death would also cause me incredible loss.
“What happened to her?” I asked as a doctor walked out of the operation room.
“She was found passed out in the bathroom. Something must have happened and she passed out from pain. However, the fall caused her injuries to tear up again and some internal bleeding also occurred. We had to take her back to the operation room to suture the wounds again.” Doctor Sam explained the situation to me.
“Alright, take her back to the room find her a new room with a bathroom in it.” I realized that the reason she had to go so far to the bathroom was probably because her room didn’t have one.
I didn’t want to keep coming back to look for her every time something happened. So, taking precautions will keep me away from her.
I don’t want to make people suspicious. Innocent was already suspicious of my concern for Valerie.
“Yes, alpha Mike.” Doctor Sam replied then pushed Valerie to a different room.
She had a nurse go to the previous room to get her belongings and move them to the new room and I wondered what belongings that slave had.
After making sure that she wasn’t dying, I left the hospital and went back to help with the planning of my ascension ceremony.
Valerie’s POV
I woke up to the quietness I was used to. For a moment, I forgot where I was and thought that I was back in my damp, cold utility room in the pack house.
However, the lack of dampness and musky smell alerted me to the different environment.
I immediately realized that I wasn’t sleeping in my room and panicked. My first thought was that I had been working, got too tired and fell asleep somewhere.
Thinking of the beating I would get if discovered, I didn’t dare to delay anymore and shot up.
The pain that shot through my body when I tried to get up made me scream.
Only then did my memory come back. I had been poisoned and brought to the hospital, then Innocent beat me into the operation room. Something then happened while I was in the bathroom and now I was lying in a soft bed?
Before I could open my eyes, I felt a presence besides me.
“Valerie, are you alright? Did you have a nightmare?” It was Anita’s voice.
I slowly calmed down and opened my eyes. I found Anita looking at me with genuine worry in her eyes and even though I was used to people pretending, I could tell that she was genuinely worried and not putting on a show.
“I am fine, I just woke up and forgot I was hurt and tried to get up.” I explained lightly, downplaying the pain I had experienced just now.
“You have to be careful. You collapsed in the bathroom and had to take a trip to the operation room. Luckily, someone was in the bathroom when you passed out and they heard a crash in the cubicle and broke down the door to check. Otherwise, you would have bled to death there. The doctor said you can’t do something so reckless again. Don’t go to the bathroom alone while you are recovering.” Anita explained what happened when I was unconscious and I cursed Mike silently.
It was his fault that I had experienced so much pain that I passed out.
What a good mate. I was lying in the hospital from the beating I got from his girlfriend, yet he was busy engaging in sexual activities with her causing me even more torment.
How classic.
“Thank you for your concern. I will be more careful in the future. Sorry for being a bother to you.” I am not an unreasonable person.
Since Anita had shown genuine goodwill, even though we have some past grudges, I would not hold them against her.
My problem had always been with the people who tortured me for no reason and refused to change. And my mate was at the top of that list.
