“You really have the nerve to ask? When we were younger, you treated me like a charity case. Always inviting me to your house to eat the food your mom cooked or to have your father teach us together. Do you know how much I hated you for that p>
Listening to Innocent, I was so shocked that I could have turned into a statue. What was she talking about? How did I ever treat her like a charity case?
I have always treated her like a friend and everything I did was because I considered her a good friend. More like a sister, that was why I didn’t have a problem with her sharing my things.
“I always treated you like my sister. I shared everything good I got with you. Be it food, clothes, toys. I even had my father teach you things he didn’t teach other children. Why would you call that charity?” What Innocent said really confused me. I have never seen her as anything less of a friend. So, why would she say such absurd things?
“Oh, please stop defending yourself. You never did those things because you treated me well. It was just so that others would praise you. Did you know that other children used to laugh at me and call me a little beggar? Every time you gave me something, they would mock me for taking the things you didn’t want. Yet now you claim to have treated me well? How is that even possible?” Innocent was basically becoming hysterical as she said this, but her rant confused me even more.
“Wait…when did all that happen? I clearly never heard anyone say such things. Moreover, you weren’t the only one I gave a few things to. Also, the things I gave to you were always new. How could they be called the junk I didn’t want? When my father bought toys for me, he bought you a new set too. They were all new.” I was also becoming agitated because of Innocent’s accusations.
I don’t have a problem with her hating me and throwing accusations at me, but I would not allow her to tarnish my father’s reputation.
Even though the pack had made it its mission to disgrace my father, I could not allow anyone to do so to my face. Even if that person is the supposed Luna.
“You think you have the right to talk to me like that? Since the day your father was killed, you lost that right. You are nothing but the daughter of a traitor now and even if I do anything to you, no one would care. Would you like to taste my wrath?” I could tell that Innocent was losing control and me being an invalid in bed wasn’t going to help.
If she made a move against me, I would be dead in seconds. However, reasoning with her wasn’t working either, so I could only bring out my ultimate weapon.
“If you kill me, Karl won’t let you go even if you are the Luna now. Also, ask yourself if Mike will protect you after you kill his mate.” Even if the deterring force of the identity of Mike’s mate wasn’t big, it was still something.
As expected, the flashing light of rage in Innocent’s eyes disappeared and she took a deep breath as if trying to control herself.
“This is all you can do. You filthy slave, but don’t worry, I will convince Mike to break the mate bond with you then let’s see what you will use to stop me. But don’t get too cocky, I might not be able to kill you now, but I can do worse things.” Innocent dropped that threat and turned, walking away on her high heels.
Listening to her footsteps walking further and further away, I took a deep breath to calm myself down. I really thought that I would die in that witch’s hands today.
But I can’t believe that my good intentions when we were kids had given birth to such resentment.
I was clearly just being nice, how could anyone twist that?
Was Innocent always like this? Twisting other people’s good intentions maliciously and targeting them?
But this episode was a warning to me. Without Lizzie, I am completely powerless and in the Night claw pack, I will always be at the mercy of others.
I couldn’t wait for my eighteenth birthday so that I could get the authority I need to leave the pack.
For now, I need to heal quickly and earn more money.
The day to leave the Night claw pack wasn’t far off but the million dollars I have in my account is far from enough.
A large pack like the Night claw pack had a lot of resources and for them to get back a small fry like me after leaving was easier than anything.
So, I need to work extra hard.
I drifted off to sleep as my mind wandered off thinking of more ways to make money.
“You are finally awake.” I heard Karl’s voice as soon as I opened my eyes.
He was sitting in a chair near my bed watching over me. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought he cared about me. Fortunately, his mask could not fool me anymore.
“Hello Karl, what are you doing here?” I asked softly and I watched as Karl’s face morphed into a caring smile.
Any other innocent girl would have been swept off her feet by that smile. Too bad I am not just any girl. I have my brains with me and I happen to know his stupid mission for getting close to me.
“I am doing great, just worried about you. Do you feel any better?” He asked with that practiced concern; it nearly fooled me.
“I think I am better than before. Did the doctor say when I could leave?” I was in a hurry to go back and make money. I don’t have the time to waste on a hospital bed.
